Natural energy from hydropower

Starting on 1 December 2009, the Berlin Wholesale Market is being provided with green electricity: “We source from NaturEnergie, a provider whose electricity is generated solely from hydropower,” says Andreas Foidl, general manager. This means regenerative energy.

NaturEnergie draws its energy almost exclusively from hydroelectric stations on the Upper Rhine (Laufenburg and Wyhlen), thus supplying the Wholesale Meat Market and the three Berlin Market Halls, among other facilities. This amounts to around 1,200 megawatt hours, corresponding to the annual electricity needs of around 310 families and saving 650 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

In brief

  • Annual sourced output: Ca. 1,200 megawatt hours
  • Annual requirements of ca. 310 households
  • 650 tonnes of CO2 are prevented annually
